I’m Eric Allix Rogers. I hold an MA with a focus in political sociology from the University of Chicago. I received a BA in political science from the University of Chicago in 2005, and am also an alumnus of Simon’s Rock College. I'm proud to call Chicago home, but grew up in Memphis.
My academic work has focused on the politics of cities, the importance of neighborhoods, and the transformative potential of emerging technology. My thesis project was an attempt to understand why some candidates for alderman in Chicago chose to campaign online in 2007 while others did not. Currently, I am a researcher on a project studying the impact of consumer amenities on the evolution of political, economic, and social patterns in different places (learn more).
I strive to apply technology intelligently to the problems I face in everything I do, and to learn quickly as it evolves. At the IT Resource Center (now Lumity) and the Oriental Institute Museum, I learned how development and marketing efforts are simplified and enhanced by the use of appropriate data management, web, and email tools. And two years spent managing and working to establish the University of Chicago Public Interest Program (UCPIP), a nonprofit fellowship program, have only reinforced my appreciation for the ability of technology to facilitate complex processes of communication and decision-making.
It takes concrete skills to leverage technology. I draw on my exceptional writing and editing skills, and the aesthetic sensibility of an avid photographer. I have developed leadership ability while managing a variety of projects and volunteer commitments such as UCPIP. When obstacles seem insurmountable, I rely on the same persistence that helped me train for and complete the Chicago Half Marathon in 2007 and 2008.
I am always looking for interesting ways to use and cultivate my skills. Take a look at my formal resume, or get in touch!
